Ateliers '89 Academia di Bellas Artes Aruba Foundation
Since 2006, we have been actively involved in organizing workshops for young people and adults. These workshops are always leading towards an exhibitions, fashion show or theater- and film programs, depending on the content of the workshop. To give you two examples of success: last year, no less than 8 participants in our film workshop have been selected with their film for the Aruba film festival. This film workshop was established with support from both the Mondriaan Fund in the Netherlands and the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds Caribisch Gebied. Also, a young Aruban artists, who is supported by Ateliers ’89, Darwin Winklaar from the disadvantaged Cura Cabai North, applied with success at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. All our teachers are well known artists from Aruba, the Netherlands, Europe, the USA and South America. We offer a diverse program covering all possible disciplines such as painting, theater, film, fashion and photography. The young people who attend workshops can hereby build a portfolio and be adopted at different academies, both in the Netherlands and elsewhere in the world. We also organize workshops on site in villages for disadvantaged children, who cannot come to Ateliers’89 to attend workshops. We do this already for seven years in the project Arte Den Bario, with the support of CEDE Aruba, VNO and various sponsors in Aruba. In the nearby future we will continue to offer these kind of workshops all over the island, from Noord to San Nicolas, where ever they are needed. Ateliers ’89 also organized excursions, meetings between the island’s people and international curators and writers, which created a huge inspirational exchange. At the same time, we organized a public program of lectures and performances, so the Aruban population could also benefit from this exchange.
